Yes, I'm achieving a personal best, and I'll soon be off for my 3rd overseas trip in 4 months. This time I'm going to the US and more specifically Houston to do some work with a long term client.
I was last there in 1999, so this is not exactly frequent flying. A trip was proposed early this year around Easter but with the NZ hockey hockey trip and unavailability of their people, it was postponed until after I got back from Thailand.
As well as the 2 weeks working, I will have 1 day in San Francisco, so I'll just have time to do the main tourist things, and 2 days in Hong Kong. I have been to HK twice before but the last time was about 1996 before it reverted to China and before the new airport was built, so I expect there will be some changes. The Olympics will be over by the time I arrive so hopefully it won't be more crowded than normal by then.
Since my last trips I have joined Mensa and I am currently Vice chairman in Australia. I have contacted the US and HK branches and hope to catch up with members during my trip.
A week ago I finalised the travel arrangements. I am again flying business class and using a Circle Pacific ticket. These tickets require you to cross the South pacific one way and the North Pacific the other. Hence you travel Australia - US - Asia - Australia or vice versa. There are options to include Chile as a stop over as well. You do need to make 2 stop overs hence the need to stay in HK on the return trip.
The airfare is not much more than half of a straight return fare to LA and, interestingly, a round the world ticket with 4 stopovers is not much more. I tried to get a couple of my UK clients to pay for the difference so that I could fly to London and spend a few days with them but they declined the offer.
